Disclosure first

I am a recommended partner for both Launch Control and Smarter Contact and earn a commission either way. That removes my incentive to push you one direction, but you should still read this knowing it. Full affiliate disclosure.

Should You Switch At All?

Usually not. Migrating an SMS platform costs you delivery stability for several weeks while new numbers warm, and that cost is real whatever the destination. Switch only if one of these is true:

  • Your current numbers are being filtered and support has not fixed it after genuine attempts
  • Your team needs a shared reply inbox your current setup cannot provide
  • Pricing at your volume has moved enough to matter over a year
  • You need integrations the current platform does not have and cannot reach via Zapier

“I want to try something else” is not on that list. Neither is a bad month — deliverability problems are usually list and copy problems that follow you to the next platform.

Launch Control vs Smarter Contact

Both are built for real estate investors rather than adapted to them, both handle 10DLC, both do the job. The differences that actually show up in daily use:

From running client accounts on both

OnboardingFast; strong hand-holding at setupGuided 10DLC, slightly more to configure up front
Reply inboxWorks; tighter for larger teamsShared inbox several people can work without colliding
ReportingAdequate for sends and repliesDeeper — delivery, carrier block, opt-out, response time per campaign
DeliverabilityGood when managedGood when managed — neither is automatic

The reporting gap is the one that changes decisions — you can see what that looks like in my Smarter Contact review, which includes real account screenshots and the criticisms as well.

The Migration Order That Works

The mistake that costs people a month is switching everything on a Monday. Numbers need warming, and a cold number pushed to full volume gets filtered.

  • 1. Register 10DLC on the new platform first, before cancelling anything. Registration takes time and nothing sends properly until it clears
  • 2. Export your opt-out list and import it before the first send. Texting someone who already opted out is the fastest route to a complaint
  • 3. Export conversation history for anyone active. It rarely transfers cleanly, so keep the file even if the import is partial
  • 4. Warm new numbers for two to three weeks at low daily volume, climbing gradually
  • 5. Run both platforms in parallel during warming — old carrying volume, new ramping
  • 6. Move campaign by campaign, not all at once, watching delivery and opt-out on each
  • 7. Cancel the old account only once the new one is at full volume with stable delivery

Budget three to four weeks for the whole thing. Anyone telling you it is a weekend job has not done it on a live account with leads depending on it.

What Does Not Transfer

Plan for these rather than discovering them:

  • Number reputation. It is earned per number and does not follow you anywhere
  • Conversation threads. Usually partial at best; export before you cancel
  • Campaign performance history. Your baselines reset, so screenshot what you need first
  • Integrations. Rebuilt, not moved. If your CRM is connected, budget time — see CRM management

The opt-out list is the one that genuinely matters legally. Everything else is inconvenience; that one is compliance.

My Honest Recommendation

If you are already running Launch Control successfully, stay. The migration cost is real and the platforms are closer than any comparison article suggests.

If you are starting from scratch, or you have outgrown a single-user inbox and need several people working replies without tripping over each other, Smarter Contact is where I would start — and the reporting depth makes the difference easier to prove. If you want it run for you rather than configured by you, that is my SMS marketing service.

FAQ

Migration FAQ

Should I switch from Launch Control to Smarter Contact?
Only for a concrete reason: numbers being filtered that support cannot fix, needing a shared team inbox, pricing that has moved materially at your volume, or missing integrations. Migration costs several weeks of delivery stability while new numbers warm, so switching out of curiosity usually loses you more than it gains.
Can I keep my phone numbers when switching SMS platforms?
Generally no, and even where porting is possible the number reputation does not transfer. Reputation is earned per number on each platform, which is why warming for two to three weeks at low volume is the part you cannot skip.
How long does migrating between SMS platforms take?
Three to four weeks done properly. Register 10DLC on the new platform first, import your opt-out list, warm numbers gradually, run both platforms in parallel, then move campaign by campaign watching delivery and opt-out rates before cancelling the old account.
What is the difference between Launch Control and Smarter Contact?
Both are investor-specific and both handle 10DLC. Launch Control onboards quickly and suits smaller teams. Smarter Contact has a stronger shared reply inbox for teams working volume, deeper reporting covering delivery, carrier blocking, opt-out and response time per campaign, and an included dialer.
